Amendment 26
Establish voting age at 18 years

Passed by Congress March 23, 1971. Ratified July 1, 1971.

Note: Amendment 14, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by section 1 of the 26th amendment.

 

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are [eighteen years of age]1 or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

 

Section 2.The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
